Drive & Park

Power on procedure, Driving procedure, Parking procedure and Power off procedure explained here  according to the  instructions given in HONDA Vezel Hybrid Owner's manual.

Power ON Procedure

1) make sure parking brake is applied. If not pull up the parking brake switch slowly and securely.

Note:- When the parking brake is applied, the electronically controlled parking brake activation  warning light will illuminate about 15 seconds.

2) Press brake pedal with your right foot

3) Press power button while depressing brake pedal

4) Keep depressing the brake pedal till the READY indicator comes on.

Driving Procedure

1) Keeping your right foot on brake pedal, check whether the READY indicator is on.

2) Put the transmission in to D or select R when reversing.

3a) With the parking brake applied, release the brake pedal and slowly depress the accelerator       pedal.      (Make sure electronically controlled parking brake activation warning light becomes OFF)

Note- If you do not fasten your driver's seat belt, the electronically controlled parking brake will not be automatically released even when vehicle start to move.

                                                                          Or

3b) if you are going downhill, you can start off more smoothly by manually releasing the parking brake.

Parking Procedure

1) Step on the brake pedal firmly.

2) while pressing the brake pedal, slowly and securely pull up the parking brake switch.

3) Press the parking switch P. 

4) Stop the power system by pressing the POWER switch.

Note :- Be sure to lock it when you leave the car. When parking on a slope, be sure to use a parking brake.    

Power Off Procedure

You can stop the power system when the vehicle completely stopped.

1) If not, set the shift position to P.

2) Press the POWER button.

Foot Brake

This is the main brake for decelerating and stopping the vehicle. Operate with the brake pedal.

Equipped with electronically controlled brake assist that generates greater braking force during emergency braking.

In addition, ABS that prevents the brakes from locking is used to improve safety.

Note:- 

Check the brakes after driving through deep water or if there is a buildup of road surface of water. If necessary, dry the brakes by lightly depressing the pedal several times.

If you hear a continuous metallic friction sound when applying the brakes, this is caused by the brake wear indicator rubbing on the brake rotor and indicates that the brake pads need to be replaced.

If you keep pressing the brake pedal on a long downhill, the brakes will overheat and the brakes will not work well, which is dangerous. Therefore, use the engine brake on long downhills, etc.

If you take your foot off the accelerator pedal and shift the gear to a low speed, the speed will slow down  due to the rotational resistance of engine.

Automatic brake hold

Note :- Keep your foot on the brakes on steep slopes and slippery roads.

Note:-

When using the automatic brake hold, keep your foot onthe brake pedal until the automatic brake hold indicator lights up.

Sudden movement of the vehicle can cause a collision, resulting in serious injury or even death in the worst case.

Take your foot off the brake pedal after the automatic brake hold indicator lights up.

Even if the system is operating, the power system can be stopped by the same procedure as usual.

When you stop the power system, the system will automatically turn off.

When using a automatic car wash, make sure the system is turned off.

If tire rotation is detected while brakes are being held, an operation noise may be generated to strengthen the brakes.

Electronically controlled parking brake

It is a brake mainly used when the vehicle is stopped and parked. It can be automatically released and operated manually.

When operating manually

The parking brake can be turned on and off by operating the parking brake switch. Manually releasing the parking brake using the switch helps your vehicle start slowly and smoothly when facing downhill on steep hills. 

Manually apply the parking brake

Pull up the parking brake switch slowly and securely. When the parking brake is activated, the electronically controlled parking brake activation warning light will comes on. 

Manually release the parking brake

1) When the power mode is ON mode, firmly step on the brake pedal with your right foot.

2) Press the parking brake switch. (The parking brake is released and the electronically controlled parking brake activation warning light turns off.

Note:-

Brake system
When you step on the brake pedal, you may hear a motor noise from engine compartment due to the operation of the brake device, but this is not a malfunction.


Electronically controlled parking brake

You can hear the operation sound when the parking brake is applied or released. This is braking system operating sound and it is normal.

The brake pedal may move when the parking brake is applied or released. This is due to system operation and it  is normal.

The parking brake cannot be applied or released when the 12V battery is dead.

If you pull the parking brake switch while driving, the parking brake will be applied during that time.

Parking brake will automatically apply when,

  • The vehicle is stopped with the automatic brake hold system activated for 10 minutes or more.
  • The seat belt is removed while the automatic brake hold system is operating
  • When the power mode is turned off while the automatic brake hold system is operating

If the parking brake cannot be released automatically, release it manually.

When the following warning light is ON, it cannot be cancelled automatically.

  • PGM-FI warning light
  • Transmission warning light

When the following warning lights are ON, it may not be possible to cancel automatically.

  • Electronically controlled parking brake system warning (Amber colour (P)!)
  • VSA Warning light
  • ABS Warning light
  • Air bag system warning light

To release automatically

Use the accelerator pedal to release the brake when you are starting the vehicle facing uphill or in a traffic jam.

Depress the accelerator pedal slowly then the parking brake is released and the electronically controlled parking brake activation warning light turns off.

You can release the parking brake automatically when, 

  • You are wearing the driver's seat belt
  • The power system is running
  • Shift position is other than P or N
